Medicaid is a vital program that provides healthcare coverage to low-income individuals and families in Florida. Administered jointly by the state and federal governments, Medicaid eligibility is determined based on income, household size, and specific categorical requirements such as age, disability, or pregnancy.

Eligibility is determined by an analysis of income and assets. Countable assets can not be greater than $2000, and income greater than $2800. If the assets or income exceeds the threshold then a Medicaid Strategy would need to be implemented to overcome these obstacles.

To apply for Medicaid in Florida, individuals can submit an application online via the ACCESS Florida system, by mail, or in person at a Department of Children and Families (DCF) office. Documentation of income, residency, and identity is required. Once approved, beneficiaries gain access to a range of services, including doctor visits, hospital care, prescriptions, and preventive screenings.

Medicaid plays a critical role in improving access to healthcare for vulnerable populations in Florida. However, the lack of Medicaid expansion has left many uninsured, intensifying the need for broader reforms to ensure comprehensive coverage for all residents in need.
